What Debts Cannot be Discharged by Bankruptcy?
While the vast majority of debts can be discharged in bankruptcy, there are a few that for public policy reasons are not discharge able. It is possible for some tax debt to be discharged, but this is highly dependent on the age of the tax debt and whether it was properly filed. If the taxes from which the debt arises were filed correctly and on time and are over 3 years old, then they are eligible for discharge. Other governmental debt is not eligible for discharge.
